Short answer
A porta cabin lasts as long as its steel frame, panel joints and base are looked after, and on a hire or project fleet the number of moves matters most. Our folding cabins (5900 × 2450 × 2500 mm) and flat pack cabins (5975 × 2435 × 2810 mm) can each be taken down and set up again more than ten times. We do not publish a life in years; we confirm the frame, panel core and finish on your quote drawing.
Why Porta Cabins Wear Differently From Houses
A porta cabin rarely stays in one place. It is lifted on and off trucks between sites and used hard as an office, guard room or washroom. So a cabin usually ends its working life through damage from moving and wet use, not a worn-out frame.
That is why our cabins come in two unit types made to move. Flat pack cabins are bolted, not welded on site, so they come apart without cutting.

What Shortens a Cabin's Life
- Lifting with chains or forks against the panels, which breaks seals
- Setting the cabin on soft or wet ground, which twists the frame and lets water reach the floor
- Scratched or cut steel left bare, which starts rust on the galvanized frame
- Wet use in toilet and shower cabins without good ventilation and drainage
- Loose bolts left after a flat pack rebuild
A Check Before Each Move and Each Hire
- Walk around the galvanized frame and touch up any scratch in the paint
- Check panel joints and sealant around doors and windows
- On flat pack cabins, re-tighten every bolt after the rebuild
- On folding cabins, check the fold lines close and seal fully
- Clear drains and check floors in washroom cabins
Who This Matters To
Contractors who move site offices and guard rooms between projects, and porta cabin dealers who hire or resell the same cabins, get the most from reuse. For a dealer stock, flat pack cabins share the same frame parts, so spare parts are simple; folding cabins are faster to turn around between hires.
Send us the cabin types, quantity and destination port. We reply within one working day with layouts, a container loading plan and an FOB China quote, and we can show the line on a video factory tour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which porta cabin type lasts longer when moved often?
Both are built to move more than ten times. Folding cabins move as one piece, so there is less to assemble; flat pack cabins come apart into parts, so a damaged panel can be swapped.
Can a porta cabin be used as a permanent building?
It depends on your local building rules. Check with your permit office before you plan permanent use. The cabin itself is the same unit either way; the base and the permit decide whether it can stay.
Do toilet and shower cabins wear faster?
Wet rooms need ventilation, drained floors and sealed joints. The same checks apply to our five-stall toilet blocks and shower units, done more often.
