Short answer
Porta cabin walls are sandwich panels: two thin steel sheets bonded to an insulating core, usually rockwool (mineral wool) or EPS (expanded polystyrene foam). On our folding cabins the walls are 50 mm rockwool sandwich panels; our flat pack cabins use EPS or rockwool panels, chosen on your quote.
How a Sandwich Panel Wall Is Built
- Outer skin - a coated steel sheet that takes the weather and gives the cabin its colour
- Core - rockwool or EPS, which insulates the room and stiffens the panel
- Inner skin - a second steel sheet that forms the finished inside wall
- Joints - panels lock edge to edge and fix into the galvanized steel frame
- Thickness - 50 mm on our folding cabin; other thicknesses are confirmed on the quote drawing
Rockwool or EPS Core
| Core | What it is | Where we use it | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockwool | Mineral fibre spun from rock | Folding cabins and expandable units | Your site rules ask for a mineral wool core |
| EPS | Expanded polystyrene foam | Flat pack cabins (option) | A lighter panel suits the project and local rules allow foam cores |

If a contract or a local authority specifies the wall core, send us that clause with your enquiry and we confirm the panel on the quote drawing before production.
Other Wall Materials You May See
Some cabins on the market use PU or PIR foam cores, and older cabins were often timber framed with plywood linings. We build our cabins with rockwool or EPS sandwich panels. If your specification names a different core, tell us and we confirm on the quote whether we can supply it.
The Rest of the Cabin Shell

Which Wall Suits Your Project
Contractors building site offices and worker camps usually choose by local rules and climate. Dealers and hire companies keep one wall specification across their fleet so parts swap between cabins. Private buyers who will live in a cabin full time should check local housing rules on insulation first; a cabin wall is not automatically approved as a home wall. Send us your site location, cabin types and quantity, and we reply within one working day with a layout drawing, a container loading plan and an FOB China quote that lists the panel core and thickness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are porta cabin walls insulated?
Yes. The core of the sandwich panel - rockwool or EPS - is the insulation. On our folding cabin it is 50 mm thick.
Can I order thicker walls?
Tell us the thickness your project needs. Our folding cabin standard is 50 mm; other thicknesses are confirmed on the quote drawing.
Can I add a window or door after delivery?
Plan doors and windows on the drawing before production, so the panels and frame are made for them. Cutting panels on site is not recommended.
